Primitive Colorado

About Primitive Colorado

Primitive Colorado is a free, community-driven map for discovering dispersed camping along Colorado's National Forest roads. Instead of relying on crowded campgrounds, travelers can pick a Forest Service road, follow it, and scout their own pull-out — and this app helps them do it with confidence.

The interactive map overlays motorized travel corridors from USFS Motor Vehicle Use Maps, color-coded by forest and district. Select any road to read community reviews covering drivability, cell service, shade, flat spots, and road conditions, plus photos geotagged to the route. Users can build custom lists of roads to explore, report real-time conditions, and vote to confirm new campsites submitted by the community.

Primitive Colorado is built for dispersed campers, overlanders, road-trippers, and anyone who prefers a quiet spot off the pavement over a reserved campground. It is built and maintained by the Primitive Colorado team with the help of a community of contributors who share on-the-ground knowledge to keep the map accurate and up to date.

Scout your own spot

Dispersed camping is allowed on most National Forest land, but always check current fire restrictions, road closures, and local regulations before you go.
